Third time’s the charm

3. The Vessel: Write about a ship or other vehicle that can take you somewhere different from where you are now. (02/20/2023)

Right now, I am in a closed door office the size of a small living room with no windows. This is where I will spend 8-9 hours almost everyday for the next 4 months in a remote base in the desert halfway across the world from my hometown Los Angeles, California.

I am just imagining the entire desert as a giant sea of sand and a metal ship swimming in the sand as large sand waves slap it back and forth while its raining sand from the winds. I just get out of my office building, and as sand is raining down down from the sky on my hair and my clothes, I walk across the concrete sidewalk and get on the ship as it sways back and forth from the sand waves. While the ship is steering towards my home, I lean on the edge and while looking down at the sand sea, a wave splashes a gust of sand into my face and my eyes. The little cubes of sand scratch my eyes as I try to rub them out with my fingers. My eyes begin to fill with tears and as they drip down my dusty face, so do they carry the sand along with them. Trying not to look like I just cried, I rub my face quickly to remove the tear pathway it left.

That’s as english as I can get. If not for a ship in a sea of sand, I would want some free time and a nice comfy sleeping bag. I lay it out nicely under a desk in the corner of the office and go to sleep with my eye mask on and my earbuds in. When I am asleep I am transported from my office into a world of really confusing dreams and at rare times, hellish nightmares. Sometimes I slip on the floor or trip on a slightly elevated edge causing me to wake up in panic and sweats. For dreams, I usually see people that I meet frequently, in the past 3 months, I only saw my coworkers that I worked in Qatar and rarely did I see my close friends or my brother from back home. Now that I am in Kuwait, I will start having dreams about the people here instead soon.
