15 If money didn’t matter, what would you do with your life? (03/13/2023)
When the prompt says if money didn't matter, I am assuming everything is free whether its houses, food, or services from other people. That would also mean, I wouldn't have to work anymore because rent and housing is already free. I might be initially happy not having to do work because I get to relax, play video games, and hang out with my friends 24/7. After a week or month of doing that, I would become depressed.
After a month or so, I would just go backpacking starting from my city. Initially, my travel destinations would be my friends because they live in different cities within California. It might take me days or weeks to reach them by foot. Some nights I will sleep in a motel, other nights I might sleep in a 24/7 laundromat with my sleeping bag. Once I reach my friends, I check up on how they are doing. From there, my goal would be to visit my 2 friends in New York. On the way, I explore the different states I am walking through and visit any monuments or national parks. Once I reach New York, my next goal would be to go to Japan with my close friends.
I used to be a very passionate weaboo. I stayed up a lot of nights binge reading mangas of Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, and Fairy Tail. While I don't watch anime or read manga anymore, I still want to visit Japan, as part of a pilgrimage. Every weaboo has to visit Japan at least once in their lifetime the same way Muslims have to visit Mecca at least once.
After Japan, I would fly to Hong Kong and visit all of my old childhood places ranging from parks, different streets, the McDonalds outside my old home, the golden dolphin statue, and my old schools.
From there, I would consider my life to be complete. I don't know what else I would do. I might end up learning Cantonese to make up for the face that in the 5 years I lived in Hong Kong, I was never able to become fluent in it.
I would end up becoming a teacher or a counselor in a community college preferably Santa Monica College because that's where I studied at. It has students from all over the world and from different walks of life. It has international students, first-generation students, students from a wealthy family, and older students who are starting college again to enter a different career field or to just learn something new. I might become a communications professor trying to teach others how to better express themselves about anything whether its about decriminalizing shrooms, a brief talk about their home country Japan, or the importance of earbuds in concerts. Alongside better expression, I would also give my students prompts to self-reflect about who they are and what they want. I would make those self-reflection assignments extra credit because its not directly tied to communication but it's something I want to encourage each person to do on their own.
What a fantasy.
