102. What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream? (05/26/2023)
Chocolate.
As long as the food is sweet, I can add chocolate to it. Whether it’s pancakes, muffins, cake, brownies, milk, or ice cream, I will add chocolate syrup or toppings if I get the chance. My favorite ice cream flavor is dark chocolate ice cream with chocolate pieces inside, chocolate chip and syrup toppings, with a chocolate cone that has a hard filling in its bottom. Chocolate is like cocaine for me, I can’t get enough of it.
Other ice cream flavors I love is the pink and ice blue combo. It was a weekend in the summer of 2020 and my sister, Ela Didi, took me to Wanderlust Creamery for the first time. I ordered a Ramune scoop (the Japanese glass marble soda flavor) and a Sakura vanilla scoop on top. Even though the ice cream looked pink, it tasted like vanilla but much creamier, softer, and thicker in texture. The ice cream tasted like it was derived from real cow milk. Also, the blue and pink combo looks aesthetically pleasing for an Instagram post.
Sometimes, I like to try other flavors such as popular snack brands. I love eating the mega-sized Oreo ice cream and the McDonald’s Flurry with M&Ms. I just realized those things also have chocolate in them.
I have an unhealthy relationship with snacks. Whenever I get bored or stressed I feel a strong urge to snack on anything nearby. It could be a pack of Cola gummies, dried mangoes, chocolate protein bars, or anything I can bite. I wouldn’t be hungry or anything but if I have nothing else to do and I see a snack, I am reaching for it. It’s on of the unhealthy coping mechanisms I have developed while growing up. It played a role in my childhood obesity. As a kid, I ate a lot but I also exercised a lot to balance it out. However, as school became more stressful through higher grades, I snacked excessively to cope with the stress. I can only run so much but I felt like there was no limit to my snacking. Downing the first snack is opening the floodgates of calories. I go into a sugar high mode where I keep eating till my stomach is in pain from being full. Even then, I find myself opening fridges and cupboards for any desserts to fit in my bloated stomach. I was obese from middle school to high school. I only started to lose weight towards a healthy range after my graduation. I wanted to make a change and didn’t want to be the same fat ugly kid from high school. I stopped excessive snacking and got more involved in running long-distance with calisthenics. I learned about my daily calorie expenditure and the different food groups. I switched high calorie snacks with healthier ones in my home. That way, when I get stressed, instead of reaching for an ice cream, I go for a banana or an apple because I stopped buying ice cream and I am too lazy to go to the store and get it. I still enjoy snacks from time to time but its more out of choice and enjoyment rather than a coping response to stress.
