101. Describe your ideal vacation. (05/25/2023)

There are three types of vacation.

1) Family vacations: I take time off to spend extra time with my loved ones. We usually travel together to visit relatives whether they are in another state or in another country. I don’t like traveling with my family for that exact reason. It often feels restrictive because I have to make a good impression or my family’s reputation will ruin. 80% of the vacation is spent visiting relative after relative in their homes. My parents are always doing the talking while I am on my phone or on my laptop sipping coke. Occasionally Biggyn will stop playing with his toys and ask me a lot of questions. Then, the relatives will ask me questions about what I am doing back in the states.

2) Friend vacations: I get a group of friends to travel together. The vacation feels like an adventure and I love it. It’s me and the boys exploring new lands while doing a lot of shenanigans along the way. It could be us walking around the neighborhood at night, smoking a blunt and running whenever one of us coughs too loud. We could grab our flashlights and hunt for a small lighthouse in the dark forest. After drinking some soju, we end the night with some board games and the Nintendo switch. The only downside is we have to compromise on the activities and locations we can go to give everyone a fair chance.

3) Solo vacations: The best one. I don’t need to align my days off with my friends and family. I can go on adventures whenever I am free whether its the weekend or a Wednesday night on a business trip. It could be me spending a week exploring my childhood places in Hong Kong or a Friday night where I walk around the neighborhood hill and watch the night city view. As long as I get to have an adventure, it will feel like a vacation to me. My legs might be tired from all the walking but my mind feels serene and relaxed. I might also treat myself by trying out new foods along the way. At the end, I will take 5-15 minutes to relax on a bench and just reflect on my life. So much freedom and so much peace. The only downsides are that it can get lonely sometimes and it’s more risky especially when I am walking alone at night.
