ARCH 142: Sustainability Colloquium by Gail Brager (Junior, Fall 2023)

In this Architecture Sustainability Lecture Series, one of the main lessons is about switching towards wood buildings. Wood buildings reduce CO2 emissions. As trees get older, they shed more dead plant materials in the form of branches and leaves which can release more CO2 in the event of forest fires. Concrete buildings release more CO2 since energy is expended to mine the minerals and burn them into powder. The same goes for the steel rods to stabilize concrete structures.
Another lesson is about the high home prices in California due to the increased demand but slow increase in housing supply. I found out that Economics is about being efficient by finding the optimal point and reducing opportunity cost.
Another side lesson is about utilizing A.I. to increase efficiency and for architects to learn about basic energy modeling. For me as a future HR professional, it would be beneficial to learn basic HR data analysis. Another way of increasing efficiency is by combining increased renewable energy alongside reduced energy costs.

Another side note is I want to visit the Jewel Chang Airport in Singapore due to how they integrate nature into their airport.
